Don't Judge a Book by its Cover

The argument over visual arguments.
Chapter 14

Don't Judge a Book by its Cover.  I think many of us have heard this quote before.  Presentation is everything in this world, content is only a minimal part of anything we do.  Shakespeare once said, "A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet" and while technically true, people would be less inclined to get there loves "thorn weeds" on Valentine's Day.  In writing, the medium of the content is more important than the actual content.  A report on the quantum mechanics of sub atomic particles in a vacuum would be less impressive if published by Sports Illustrated.  Quickly establish your authority on an issue, use a font with serifs to show your professionalism, adequately space your lines so the document is easy to read, all of these things will greatly help your writing when presenting something in a professional manner.

Ideas for WP1
I care greatly for the internet and internet rights.  I would do an argument and visual aid for why the media industries are incorrect in their method of fighting online piracy.

  1. Your post is very simple, yet you make some really good points. I like how you brought up the idea of judging a book by its cover. We all do it, some of us just don't want to admit it. Yeah your personality can be amazing, but if you are coming across as someone I wouldn't want to talk to then I probably won't be 100% engaged in the conversation. Its the cold hard truth. This then relates to the chapter about visual arguments and presentation. People are swayed by what they are seeing in front of them. Whether it is affecting your emotional/sad side, your funny/LOL side, or all the parts in-between. If a picture really draws you in, then you want to find out more. Relating back to "judging a book by a cover" and judging people, if you're sitting at a table with a hot girl you know you would want to talk to her and find out more about her. If she was not your type, well then maybe you would have less of a need to talk.
You then went on about how to present things in a professional manner. I enjoyed this part because I would like to learn more about creating a swaying visual argument. I am thinking about doing something more emotional, and your tips from the book would really help! I want to go for the "save the forest" type stuff, so I am having a little trouble establishing credibility with my writing.
